What is Invisalign?

Invisalign is an orthodontic system that uses a series of clear, nearly invisible plastic trays, or aligners, to gently coax your teeth into proper alignment, without the need for metal bands or wires. It can be used to treat both adult and teenage patients.

How does Invisalign compare to traditional braces?

Invisalign offers many benefits compared to traditional braces:

• They're nearly invisible, so the stigma or self-confidence issues associated with wearing metal braces is eliminated

• They're smooth, so they're much more comfortable to wear

• They're removable, which makes it easier to keep your teeth and gums healthy during orthodontic treatment and also allows you to eat whatever foods you like

• They can also be removed for social events or class or work photos

• Treatment is truly customized to your mouth, so you can usually see results much more quickly

How does Invisalign work?

Invisalign starts with an impression of your mouth to record your mouth size and the type and extent of the issues you're facing. That impression is scanned into a computer and proprietary software evaluates it and determines how your teeth need to move over the course of treatment to become properly aligned. Then based on those measurements, the computer is able to create a series of aligners specifically for your care to help you achieve proper alignment.

How long will I have to wear Invisalign?

The length of treatment depends on the issues you're facing; most patients complete treatment well within two years.

How many aligners will I need?

The number of aligners you need will be determined based on the amount of correction you need. Most patients find they need somewhere between 12 and 30 aligners, but some may need more. Aligners usually are changed every two weeks.
